(mini)CreativeCamp at BlogPhiladelphia

Thursday, July 5th, 2007

Just wanted to update my millions of readers that CM Access is increasingly busy! We’ve been adding to our team of dedicated and passionate career advocacy professionals, and we’re still keeping busy learning about how tactics and strategies are changing in this crazy world of ours.

Among others, the most important thing I’ve learned is that it’s no longer acceptable to admit defeat when it comes to using the Internet. “Oh that’s too complicated for me!” just won’t cut it. Your job search shouldn’t rely solely on internet job boards, but neither should it ignore that realm of limitless information altogether!

But the Internet changes so quickly, one could hardly keep a handle on the new vocabulary and the instantly popular pages that might just as quickly recess back into obscurity. Here’s where the blogosphere enters the conversation…”How?” you ask?

Join me at BlogPhiladelphia on July 12 and 13 at the Radisson in Rittenhouse to come out and see what’s going on in Philly and beyond in the world of the Inter-web-net. :) And if you can’t make it on such short notice, be sure to check out PodCamp Philly in September!

Be a part of the future!

Plus, I’m working on having a mini-CreativeCamp session so we can get the creative types together and talk about job searching, a self-marketing campaign strategy for more clients and more money, and whatever else you’re dying to talk about!

Great Expectations (1)

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

I will not comment on, or request insight about, or opinions regarding the latest product announcement from a certain technology company named after a fruit.

While it’s a fascinating study of blogger-hype and buzz, it is what my friend Robert called “expectation marketing” (see word of mouth marketing, including buzz and viral…) because by not giving any solid information about the product, what’s actually being advertised–and blogged the hell out of–is the expected product.

As Robert explains, with the product likely still being in early stages of development, this corporation, by leaking the idea to a very well-connected network, the world (well, blogosphere) soon becomes the focus group. Through this, the product itself can continually be adjusted as needed. (this is probably precisely what is blogged about elsewhere)

My point is: It will be uber-expensive until everyone has one and then, why would you want it anyway? Because soon after the price drops from $499 to $49.99, something better will be launched, probably by the same corporation, and with even more expectation of the way it will change how we communicate with one another on a global level…

[oh crap, I talked about it anyway!]

I’ve been Tagged!

Tuesday, December 12th, 2006

I was introduced to this “5 things about me” meme by Bryan who has had some pretty awesome experiences!

And I saw it on AClearEye that Tom tagged Seth Godin and Guy Kawasaki…still have to check if they actually posted in like fashion.

Basically, it’s the chain mail of all chain mail! And I’m on board. I figure, if you know a little more about me, you’ll see me as a person, here for a conversation anytime! I’ll try to keep them short so if you’re curious-just ask!

1-My sister Jane, of whom I am immensely proud, will be the first in our family to enter the military. She’ll enter the US Air Force in January as a second lieutenant and registered nurse.

2-I am a squeamish individual–not a fan of hospitals, doctor’s appointments, dentist visits or anything related. My immediate family are all in the medical fields (2 nurses, one pharmacist and a future pharm student) so that leaves me…out there.

3-I spent 4 months in Spain during college and 4 months in Bolivia, South America after graduation. I am DESPERATE to travel again!

4-I was the drum major of the high school marching band. Tease all you want, but I loved it (still do) and am very proud of the achievement!

5-My family lives in Hershey, PA, The Sweetest Place on Earth. It’s an adorable town with a very real smell of chocolate in the air (unless it’s Thursday, when it’s usually roasting peanuts from the Reese’s factory) and a stellar hospital with Penn State’s College of Medicine.

Wow, I’m sure I could go on and on about various things I believe make me MaryHelen.

But now comes the difficult part: Tagging people to share who haven’t already been tagged!
How about

can’t wait to learn more about you!

Welcome to CMAccess.net!

Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

[I’d like to try to tie together our first official blog post and Halloween, but I can’t seem to connect the two on any level]

If you’re finding this blog for the first time… wait! Of course you are! It’s brand-spanking new!

So, welcome! Thanks for stopping by. Hopefully you’ll take something sweet with you. (aha Got the holiday reference in there!)

We intend for this blog to be a frequently updated resource for all things related to your job search. We plan to include resume help, networking (::cringe::) tips, creative search strategies, frustrations and successes, anything we feel candidates and contacts will benefit from reading.

And not just from me, either. The idea for CMAccess.net is that it will be a vehicle for conversation, a continued dialogue that can be shared not just by two, but by many! (Thanks Bryan)

I want to hear what’s going on with you, what you want to read about, and how we can improve CM Access.

Happy Halloween!
